Principal Safety Engineer (Fire Protection – Dutch Speaking) Den Haag Zuid-Holland

Our client is now seeking a Principal Safety Engineer with a specialization in loss prevention/Fire protection to work on medium to large projects for various customers. The role requires you to provide technical advice, manage the Fire Protection activities and deliverables on projects, lead a small team of Fire protection engineers, and produce Fire Protection documents for the Authorities.

Main Responsibilities include:

• Safety Engineers are responsible for: Safety Engineer Management / Regulatory Compliance / Technical Safety / Environmental Engineering / Loss Prevention / Human Factor Engineering / Sustainability
• Demonstrating leadership in Safety Engineering with the ability to handle complex multi-office projects
• Taking responsibility for project success by providing strong direction for the team
• Planning and managing work—including financial aspects such as man-hour estimates and margin goals—and ensuring effective management of change
• Understanding the project business case and reflecting this in productivity, scheduling, workhour control, innovation, etc.
• Involvement in the development and implementation of activities using the latest technology and methods to improve efficiency, accuracy, and productivity
• Taking personal responsibility for safety and a healthy environment on projects by setting a strong example
• Collaborating effectively with project management and other disciplines, both within our client and that of the client
• Exhibiting excellent verbal and written communication and coordination skills

• Fire Protection Philosophy
• Active Fire Protection, including: Fire water demand calculation, hydraulic calculations, FW layout, FW UFD & P&ID’s, heat radiation contours, monitoring covering, requisitions, etc.
• Passive Fire Protection, including: Specifications and layouts
• Fire and Gas Detection, including: Philosophy, specifications, requisitions, and layouts

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering
• At least 12 years of experience in Safety Engineering with a specialization in Fire Protection, including a minimum of 7 years in a lead engineer role
• Experience in developing the Fire Protection scope during the Concept, FEED, and Detailed Design project phases
• Experience producing Dutch Fire Protection Documents for the Dutch Authorities (Dutch language required)

• Ability to review and check deliverables produced by the team
• A pro-active and pragmatic mentality
• Experience in cooperating with remote offices (work sharing concept)
• Being a true team player within the Safety Engineering team and in collaboration with other departments
• Taking ownership of scope, budget, and schedule
• Ability to work independently and report to a project engineer/manager or overall Lead Engineer
• Experience with Pipenet / KY Pipe
• Possession of a valid driver’s license
